A Whirley bird for sure, the bright colors of this arisen one are all natural earth pigments from minerals, sands & soil. Very cheerful, nature abounds! BEAR
An important totem for many indigenous Native American cultures & a frequent character in European fairy tales, Bear has great strength, speed & inner resources as well. Many US tribes see Bear as the animal who governs Herbalism, who digs for Medicinal roots, knows all the berries and leaves of the environment and is omnivorous in diet. Bear knows how to hunker down & preserve his/her energy seen in his/her hibernating state, be playful & spring into action when it is needed. Grizzly & Kodiak Bears are extremely fast & can supposedly outrun a race horse for the first 100 yards! That’s a football field y’all! Red Iron infused base rock with Sandstone Bird like figure spun off a clockwise spiral. Smaller figure is a vector that appears to be moving forward in this scale. COATLICUE
Coatlicue has many forms in her apparitions & appearances. One of these is the Great Snake. Damballah is an African name which describes a similar apparition. Mama Wati is another & in the Pacific, she appears sometimes as a Sea Serpent. The great churning spirallic forces of Nature are represented by her, the energy that creates matter, Storms, Roses, & Galaxies. A sign of power & prodigious bounty. CROSS CURRENTS (XIUCOATL)
Images of 2 headed animals or animals facing in opposite directions appear in the Art & Cosmology of Mesoamerican cultures, Chinese and Eastern European culture and other places. The sign PISCES is an example, the Chinese Yin/Yang symbol another. Xiucoatl is the Aztec version, a 2 headed serpent which represents order and chaos. The Curandera works with the elements & processes of Nature, the weathers, the powers, & the sweet grace of the Mother to assist people in their Health & Evolution. As such she must use all her faculties simultaneously to arrive at a helpful solution. This piece has faculties, chakras & talents on display. DAMBALLAH the Great Snake, known throughout those cultures which radiated from Benin outward in the diaspora, the Caribbean into New Orleans & the Gulf Coast. There’s a nice intro on Wiki. From Wiki: “As a Serpent, he moves between Land and Water, generating life, and through the Earth, uniting the land with the Waters below.” This image appears in that medium, Water to Earth, as transmitted by the Mineral Kingdom. As the Dagara people who live near the original birthplace of this loa believe, minerals transmit the memories of Earth, Cultures & Extraterrestrial influences. Among Native American cultures the Medicine Wheel concept includes smaller personal Medicine Wheels as well as large stone circles of very large boulders. The language & signification of the various types & cultures varies as well although many include the four directions as an element in their Medicine Wheels. These Wheels have Calcites, Jaspers, Sandstone, Agates, Selenite, Schist & Iron stained materials as well as Pottery shards which are common here where the earliest human sites in North America are located & a part of Atzlan before the move south. These wheels have their own meanings & are arranged by harmonies among the materials themselves. Fancied up, Owls can live & often do in relatively urban settings where they can hunt at night & make themselves invisible to the populace in daylight hours. Even the Great Horned Owl, the largest of American Owls, can & does come to town although they have a greater food source in more natural settings. Owls are seen as birds of wisdom & canny fortune tellers often portending events. A friend here in New Mexico had a Great Horned Owl come sit on her porch a few days before her father passed away in Europe. In our area (New Mexico) I’ve seen this design motif on pottery, baskets & fetishes from Zuni, Navaho & Santo Domingo and it appears in other cultures here as well. The Heartline, also called the Lifeline, is a graphic depiction of the life force as breath and is the connection between animals or men with their environment. Breath brings us life energy which we can transmute into action or transcendence at the Heart. The continuity of the Heartline shows us that we are intimately connected to the medium in which we exist & in fact, we are part of a larger system which nurtures us. A friend living outside Santa Fe, NM walked onto her porch one evening & was surprised to find a Great Horned Owl standing in the corner looking at her.
