DROP EVERYTHING IMMEDIATELY! THERE’S A PARTY NEXT DOOR!
All things in manifest creation are born unencumbered and free standing. They have shape, weight and unique forms because of the currents from which they arise. When the human mind encounters the sea of forms it begins its quest and monkey dance to create meanings, categories, dichotomies and imagery to link these to our picture of the general run of things. All things have their own natural history. Their journey is etched in their demeanor. Then there is our narrative “about” them created from the cookie box of nerve tracings called memory. Our need to explain things is thwarted by a constantly changing swirl of what comes our way. We live in a world of cognitive dissonance which creates tension. At times the impasse we find ourselves in makes us leap or even get down.
A blessing occurs when we reach the end of our rope and “the hairs of the rope” as Spanish poetry says. We drop it and it suddenly appears or comes forth as itself without human intervention.
Nahuatl, the indigenous language of the Aztecs, and one of the mothers of the Mexican Spanish language is structured to create conflicting meanings and imagery in single words and phrases. This is done by revealing contrary notions of their qualities and operations or by inherent paradoxes. “The Flowering War” combines elements of beauty, peace and fragrance with the suffering and work of WAR to discuss the struggle a warrior undertakes to come to flower in himself. When the proper physical disciplines have been employed the tension set off in the mind by the juxtaposition of dissonant image and meaning explodes in the warrior’s chest and he enters the second attention where he is cognizant of the isness of things without categorization or narrative, where (s)he learns to move in a new & sparkling domain.
These Spirit Rock Combinations have their own stories and conversations. Sometimes they enhance one another in common purpose. Sometimes they pose a question. There are answers to questions you never thought to ask. There are conundrums and conga drums. By juxtaposing 2 or more non human narratives, we are frustrated in our attempts to reconcile the “story” we try to assign everything we see. New “meanings” may arise or perhaps we just enjoy our experience. There’s always a party next door!!
These look wonderful set on a table or cabinet. They enliven an altar. Some are charms created for a purpose. Some are natural art. Some goofy! Some Sparkle! Enjoy the galleries…
