Large display of desert imagery including Black Jasper Arrow, Paleo line images, Microcrystalline Quartz, Agate & enhanced Sandstone shapes. Natural minerals, Earth Pigments. The Black Arrow mimics the Black Sun & is a call to full embodiment & translation into the Gold of the Sun in Alchemy. A Black Arrow with a positive message & good news prophecy. 18″ long, 14″ wide, & 5″ thick at its greatest dimension though most of it is approx 3″ thick. The single shaped Sandstone which is the basis for this piece is enhanced with Earth Pigments but is original color, shape & texture. This is a large, relatively heavy piece suitable for a larger room, displayed on a heavy New Mexico style wooden table would be great, in any case, a rustic setting, either flat or propped from behind to afford an easy passerby view. MYSTERIUM
Rocks contain all the mysteries. According to the Dagara people of Burkina Faso, they contain the thought forms & energy patterns of all the humans on Earth. The myriad shapes, patterns, filigree & fusion of the Earth’s “material” attest to the creativity & fecundity of the process occurring on our planet. Material is the filigree of the Mater, the Mother of it all. The Earth is represented as feminine in most world cultures. Medieval scientists & alchemists spoke of the “Geologia Mysterium”. HARD WORKING
The inscribed rock in the center here was picked up for its shape & subtle color & the water revealed it had man’s thought on it. A reminder that hard work & discipline always have their rewards. This MANTHOUGHT found itself in a swirling jungle of natural processes which accomplish much & “work” little. Many Taoists in early China preached wu-wei & worked hard at it. A dry garden, sometimes called a Moon Garden. A stunning addition to yr living room or den. A fantasia of forms, Taoists engaged in fantastic gardens created by arranging natural materials in an arresting display. These are documented in John Blofield’s great books on his travels through pre revolution China in the 1930’s. This Moon Garden is 11″ long x 9″ wide x 4″ thick at the thickest. The Sleeping Bird lies curled upon itself in repose, navigating the depths of dream & rest. A reminder of Nature’s constant reimagining & renewal. The main piece is 9″ x 4″ x 3″ thick. Rocks have been made tools by Man, rock hammers, chisels, arrow points, axes, cooking pots, wands, sceptres, & JuJu sticks. Some rocks are meant to be contemplated like the Scholars Rocks of China. Some of these reveal the Celestial beauty of the Heavens. ASCENSION COMPLEX
The central figure here appears to be rising in flight. It is not glued to the prop rock but rests comfortably on it on or near the darker marks on the surface of the prop rock. It can be leveled by slight adjustment & is then solid. This figure embodies aspiration, inspiration & jubilation as well as knowledge of the mechanics of ascension. The accompanying pieces sing her praises! The larger piece is 9″ x 3″ x 2.5″ but rises to 5-6″ with the prop rock so it’s dramatic. The 5 pointed star shape on the Calcite mix can be seen as part of a larger spiral as the wave rises across from the smaller attached rock, an acknowledged aspect of Jubilation. IN MEMORY OF CALIFORNIA
CALIFORNIA is a name that came from a Spanish novel of the 16th Century & signified a land of lush fantasy & untold riches, near the Garden of Eden, ruled by powerful Black Women. The Author, Garcia Ordonez de Montalvo, took the name from an Arabic word “Khalifa” The early Spanish explorers were stunned by the beauty & variety of this land’s forests, tule swamps, tropical palm lined southern ocean, & many mountainous areas & could only call it CALIFORNIA, the Fantasy Island they had found.
The other theory is that California refers to Calit Fornay, Spanish for “hot furnace”. Both these theories fit & so they’re both true! This is sounding more like California all the time.
The incredibly beautiful central Coast of California from Half Moon Bay into Big Sur & beyond have been ravaged by fire these past years & it’s heartbreaking to see. This one is for all those who love California. The larger piece is 12″ x 3″ x 3.5″ thick. The piece on the left is 6″ x 4.5″ x 3.25″ tall. The piece of the rt is 4.25″ x 3″ x 2″ thick. The middle size piece has a central piece within it that is unglued but sits perfectly for display. However it has delicate clam shells as part of its design so in the event that they were to chip or break at some point you can see the version of the larger piece which has that part of the design removed. 14 piece Xtravaganza of Desert inspiration: Here we find Osirus going through the dark, watery tunnel of his birth & rebirth, A Moon Goddess of many names throughout history (including 40’s Marcasite Jewelry piece) , Pan or a similar Nature Spirit, a Mountain of Desert Spirits, nature made Kachinas to entrance, inform & energize us. Some are merely beautiful without meaning, evidence of God’s grace in creation. The Many Eyes (Orange) piece exhibits the phenomenon that when the viewer realizes that vision itself is a 2 way street of photons that God is looking at us from everything! The eye like shapes follow the Doctrine of similars & energetically are a vehicle for sight (How many can you find? There are more in person). LITTLE BUFFALO
The massacre & decimation of the Bison was on a par with the decimation of Native Peoples & the natural resources of the continent. The Bison is an animal with incredible strength. A woman I know used to herd them on a ranch she was a hand at, where they were raised for meat. A group of them were being herded through a cattle chute into a pen when one decided to go the other way. This is unlike cattle who follow in the herd. This particular one kicked a solid steel 15 foot gate off its hinges & 8 feet into the air! She told me she had never seen any similar show of strength & she was well versed with ranching & wildlife. STONE GARDEN IV
9 piece group of desert images. We can see animal like or proto animal figures in some of these. The central Tree of Life figure has at least 1/2 dozen proto animal or bird forms. These forms appear in many varied species of animals & plants, in rocks & seashells & everywhere else in material reality & have a similar resonance because of their shapes & the energies which create those shapes. APPARITIONING refers to the process by which an intent or impulse becomes embodied so to speak. Physicists call it the Plenum. an implicate order or “purpose” if purpose is understood as something beyond what men can imagine. “The fevered dreams of Angels” as one man noted. The Powers can be understood as various energetic forms which arise from some cosmic intent which men respect & even worship. It’s good to have someone on your side but in this case yr just part of the bigger system (which is actually infinite so they say) so the more you are acting in harmony with that system or order, the more power & radiance are gifted to you. MAW
Maw – Scottish word for Mother or “your Mother” as an insult or one up. The prefix Ma is a universal acknowledgement of the feminine goddess or principal in creation as seen in Madre, Mama, Matrix, & many other words which imply Motherhood or feminine creative agency. Also refers to a “gaping Maw” as in a “voracious animal” or dark door to a cave. Jack Kerouac wrote about “the wheel of the quivering meat conception” which “turns in the void” & creates all beings. The central piece here is 10″ x 8″ wide & reminds us the various emanations of matter which are the infrastructure of our “material” world are continuously created by a force which is considered feminine in many cultures. The endless variety, creativity & exuberance of this process is akin to Motherhood in our human experience & is actually more like a torrent or weather event in terms of its force & innate power. This is why we can create such extreme energies by “splitting” this infrastructure apart by mechanical force or chemical processes. PERFUMED GARDEN
The Perfumed Garden is a sexual treatise from Persia although the Garden spoken of is also a metaphor for the spiritual realization that we live in a garden of delights if we could only wake up! The long piece is actually 3 separate pieces which lay together to form the image. The practicality of gluing these pieces made it difficult but they lay in a solid supported way on a flat surface. TRANSFIGURATION
Multicolored Sandstone with Jasper & Agate on top. 4.5″ x 3″ x 4″ tall. A nice range of colors in subtle patterns. The base is unglued to the top piece to allow various positions & views. It looks good with the top piece in different positions so you can match it shape wise to your environment. The title refers to the fact that colors & shapes in the same environment often match or are harmonious because they arose from the same Matrix (Mother) In this case the 3 different minerals have similar or harmonious colors & Jasper & Agate arise from Sandstone beds where heat, pressure & water transfigure it first into Chert & then the harder silica rich minerals. BAMBOULA
The Bamboula is variously described as 1) a drum made from a Rum Barrel, 2) the dance associated with these drums. This name may have had derogatory implications when used by Whites in reference to Blacks during the slave period of our history. The cultures from which these drums arose was West Africa & the places where slaves were brought in the Caribbean, Haiti & the city of New Orleans. Like the Chunteros of Mexico New Orleans culture has taken back this name or appropriated it for their own uses, which are celebratory & life affirming. Bamboulas is the name of a popular night club in New Orleans. For our purposes we like the strong colors & shapes of this constellation which have an in your face element in an exciting way! 5 piece suite, each containing elements which demonstrate or encourage transcending digitization of reality& rising above cognitive dissonance to a more wholistic vision & harmony. This picture is seen in many rock/mineral families & is seen world wide in indigenous Art. The Southwest Native Americans us many variations of it in their art. In fact it’s one of the building blocks or rather energetic vectors of creation. From here & now spirals radiate in all directions in dimensions seen & unseen. When we access some of these simultaneous vectors we get a glimpse of another Universe than the one we’ve been taught. Indigenous cultures recognize these intersections of space & time & seek visions to gather power & knowledge there. 7 piece grouping of combination pieces to enhance & enliven your civilized environment. Bringing rocks into your indoor environment stimulates it by the uncivilized colors, patterns & narratives which they embody. Spread them around or group together for display. Lively up yourself, jump up to the real, it’s going on without you! The larger piece is 7″ x 4.5″ features opalized glass which is often found underneath Juniper bushes or trees. Besides glass, the area underneath Junipers often has purple or blue hued rocks which are relatively rare in this area of New Mexico. 7 piece suite of forms. The Mythgate at the center of this group is an imaginary construction of shapes, colors & textures which are essentially pleasing & seem to have meaning but that meaning if one can formulate a meaning, is filled with contradictions, associations, leaps of faith & wordplay which do add up but don’t submit to intellectualization, division or categorization. This is the world we have created by dissecting everything & naming it or learning someone elses name for it or accepting someone else’s description of it without examining it. This is the plight we find ourselves in. Beyond the Mythgate is a world we can’t imagine because it is outside of our experience or narrative. The Mythgate is our world view. Here & there we may get a glimpse, a hint or an intuition of something wild & wonderful just out of reach & which keeps calling us. These pieces create their own myths but perhaps they just look pleasing without meaning. The larger Gate piece is 6″ x 6.5″. The Goddess of Earth & Mother (Matrix) of manifest reality in the Aztec Pantheon is Coatlicue. She appears as the myriad forms, colors, & energetics of the natural world. This piece is fun to look at because the differences in design of the various pieces despite their links by color & shape, create a slight dissonance which is our resistance to the way things are. As we speak often here about the correspondences between organic & inorganic forms, and various materials of & processes in the natural world, we see 2 proto bird like forms in this group which indicates that the formative energies are similar. Ancient spiritual technicians discovered & elaborated on Sacred Geometry & indigenous cultures here & world wide have noted these correspondences. We can see the spirallic movement clearer in the Orange Pink Calcite while the darker piece is also concerned with stabilization.
