MODERN ART

The centerpiece here seems to have spiralled into existence. by water likely. The Earth turns up in Spring, sprouts, seedlings, rocks twist up & out as a baby does from the Mother, the seedlings growing in a spiral pattern, an eruption of intent & purpose. The central one is approx 9″ x 5″ x 3″ thick, the longer other is 7″ x 3″ & the smallest one is 5″ x 3″. Click on images to see closeups!!

A Quintette of Desert images. Out here, as elsewhere the rocks, in shape & color, seem to mimic other forms such as plants, stars & flowers. As part of the local energetic system this is natural. The bird like shape taking off in the lower left could be inspiration. The Toltecs view our actions in the world as art in that we create the world we can dare to. The high Desert draws that out of people perhaps because they are closer to the heavens up in here. The central piece here is 8″ x 4.5″ & 5″ thick! This is a chunky piece and is dramatic in that regard. The upper left piece is 6″ tall, 5″ wide & 3.5″ thick. It’s comprised of a base with the arrangement sitting on it. The Orange piece is 6″ x 3.5″. The Bird taking flight is 5.5″ x 3″. The piece on the rt is 7.5″ x 4″. Click on images to see closeups!

A rustic platform which can be used alone as a foundation stone to display other pieces (rocks, statues, a vase or basket ??) or can be used to display the top piece as shown in the featured image. The base is 5″ x 4″ x 4″ tall. The smaller piece is 5″ x 4″ x 3.5″ tall. Click on images to see closeups!

A Bluebird rises out of a recent flooded streambed inscribed on the bottom rocks & accompanied by a literal flow of shaped sand & silt. The Bluebird piece is 7.5″ x 3″. The rt lower piece is 5″ x 4″. The upper rt piece is Jasper with a Green Calcite on top, 4.5″ x 3.5″ x 4″, a chunky desk or shelf piece. The top left piece is 3.75″ x 3″. At the lower left we have a depiction of the Tantric way, the Serpent of sensuality feeding the heart. Click on images to see closeups!

12″ long X 8″ wide this piece has desert minerals arrayed on dark Brown & Eggshell White naturally colored Sandstone. The figure shown in the detail photo is a Woman with her water jug, a sight common in all native cultures where water is a necessity & procuring it a daily activity. Her jug is Green Calcite, a cooling, harmonizing & soothing mineral which mirrors Water’s healing properties. Would look great mounted on a wall. Would require gluing a hanging device on back. One of the world’s great art forms, Flamenco comes from the multi dimensional culture which flourished in Spain during the years when she was the pre-eminent repository of scientific, artistic and spiritual knowledge & the center of European civilization.  Ziryab, the “Blackbird”, was a freed black slave, who grew up in Bahgdad & was one of the main arbiters of taste at the Spanish court for 30 years. It is claimed he knew 10,000 songs by heart.  He invented the modern OUD.  His technique was famous & he played strings made from Lion’s sinews with an Eagle claw for a pick!  The multi cultural influences of Phoenician, Persian, Jewish, & Roma bloodlines & musics produced a style which has stunning technique & unparalleled devotion to emotional truth & expression.  This piece attempts to visually portray some of these aspects.  As Garcia Lorca noted, “Deep Song”, bathed in the blood of the Gitanos.  Lorca said the spirit of Flamenco “burns the blood like a poultice of broken glass”.  Referring to Flamenco dance, he said “The duende works on the body of the dancer like the wind works on sand”.  The small fetish piece appears as a bird on one side.  When turned it mimics the arm and dress movements of the dancers.  Flamenco is a Spanish name for flamingo, a tall graceful bird and flamenco’s spirit channels many natural energies of animals and other natural forces. Sandstone, Petrified Wood, Jasper (Witch’s Tears), Hematite’s magnetic script, Aztec Calcite, & Natural Fetish combine to sing its praises!
