WANDERING STAR
The meander is a vector which is in no great hurry. There is a forward thrust of energy but it turns this way & then again. It is similar to a snake’s movements or streams & rivers which turn & switchback many times in their traverse. The star is a geometric impression of a perfectly balanced spiral which has 5 stress points in its twist. This particular star in the center of its sandstone pedestal has a slightly longer top point indicating that it is moving rather than stationary. The meander is also in movement so the charm confirms itself & it becomes a Wandering Star seeking expression in many venues. A nice charm for Taoists.

HORNS OF HEYOKA – The image & head dress of HEYOKA reflect the fact that the culture in which HEYOKA originated was a hunting culture. Because the demands of hunting & tracking require vigilance, sensitivity & intuition the horns represent those qualities which enable HEYOKA to see beyond or into our everyday reality to perceive the energetic qualities of material existence. The horns act as antennae & are often depicted with auras or ethereal energies surrounding them or emanating from them. This piece represents that reality. COUNCIL OF VOICES – This concept is a combination of the process elaborated by Stephen Buhner in his book PLANT INTELLIGENCE & THE IMAGINAL REALM and SANDPLAY THERAPY, a modern therapuetic process in which people use sand & small symbolic objects to create their interior world & solve problems by using their hands (and bodies) to learn to control & harmonize symbolic stories. All Buhner’s books are wonderful & we recommend that they be required reading for all scientists & politicians as well as the general public. In the same way that rocks embody narratives which can be of help to human beings, our ideas are actually templates which tend to manifest in material reality by channeling the energetic field we are part of into a particular shape.. By observing & contemplating the “stories” or patterns in natural objects, we begin to partake of their formative energies, and they help us to empathize & incorporate their patterns into our own. The Council of Voices is an interior dialogue between different parts of oneself which are personified images that have their own voices. The advantage of using natural objects instead of manufactured images is that they are given meaning by the participant in the same way that a Rohrschalk Test functions to be a picture created by the participant. This is what we are actually doing with our “perception”. The individual pieces or rocks can play the part of “persons” in our lives, of parts of our own psyche which have their own needs & purposes, or as abstract symbols of processes or relationships, similar to tea leaves, yarrow stalks, or astrological signs & planets. FUTURE BIRD ALTAR
The Future Bird is a being who is spoken of in many cultures around the world. Men, seeing birds fly off into the unknown, made them messengers who moved between the worlds of time. Here in Northern New Mexico, Raven moves through many simultaneous worlds and can portend the future. Future Birds take your dreams into the future and also relay messages to you about your future. The Future Bird in this Sand Tray is white Calcite highlighted by the same orange as in the Sandstone itself. He rises 1.5 inches above the base and appears to be moving upward. The tiny green charm in the lower right corner is a world of plants and other organic forms which is a vital component of all desert life as it is everywhere. The tray is 7″ x 6″. These are meant to be platforms of activity. Please play with your sand tray, blow incense on it and add other personal elements that you favor. Rearrange things!
