HORNS OF HEYOKA – The image & head dress of HEYOKA reflect the fact that the culture in which HEYOKA originated was a hunting culture. Because the demands of hunting & tracking require vigilance, sensitivity & intuition the horns represent those qualities which enable HEYOKA to see beyond or into our everyday reality to perceive the energetic qualities of material existence. SOLIDITY built on balance of forces, the desert has its own subtle energy & imagery. The upper piece suggests an animal or bird immersed in its own revery or waiting silently with serpent intent. The pedestal looks like petrified wood although I believe it is some other sedimentary form with the peculiarly exquisite orange veins like sherbet got thrown in the mix.
