THE GEOLOGIC REFLECTS THE HUMAN

layers2

In northern New Mexico there is a geological continuation of the great deposits which occur in north central Mexico.  These deposits combine calcite, quartz and feldspar in sedimentary bands, colored by metallic elements and other minerals.  Sometimes these minerals form a micro crystalline matrix and, at other times, can be relatively broad bands, swirls or interpenetrating planes of various colors.  In the mountains of northern New Mexico, the relatively recent (in geologic terms) volcanic activity has taken these bands or layers and bent, compressed and twisted them into endless wondrous shapes.  The combination of below zero winters, blazing summers, monsoon rains, flash flooding and frenzied wind have added their unique energies to the face of the world here. These mineral deposits have been called variously “Aztec Banded Calcite”, “Incan Banded Calcite”, and “Aztec Rainbow Calcite” reflecting their connection to the more southern deposits.  Varieties are also called “Coral Calcite”,  “Honey Calcite” and there are many others.

These names also reflect the human migration northward in the Aztec diaspora.   Both the central American native populations and the native Americans who lived in this area before that, saw in the natural forms around them, patterns and colors which they incorporated into their art and design.  Shamans, medicine people, heyokas, diviners, curanderas and early Catholic mystics such as the penitentes all either used minerals as tools or were inspired by these as direct apparitions of the divine or as artistic inspiration.  Indeed all indigenous religions recognize the interpenetration and correspondences of all things and thus these “pictures” in the rocks reflect and enhance human experience.

gotyoucovered     This has been acknowledged in modern times by the theory of “morphic resonance” which holds that similarity of form is similarity of function.  Albert Einstein said “Concerning matter we have been all wrong.  What we have called matter is energy, whose vibration has been so lowered as to be perceptible to the senses.  There is no matter.”   Modern physics recognizes that matter = process.  It is an unfolding as are the processes of plant growth and human evolution.  It is the same unfolding.

Each discrete event or “specimen” is a history, a narrative and a confluence, a sign and symbol of the unfolding.  This is the power of the “spirit stones” and power rocks.  Their power is a combination of their resonance with you and your intent.  This is why they are “lucky”. “Spirit Rocks” are a story.  By reflecting on them and by holding and cherishing them you help create the story of your life.  Contemplation of them draws you into the “geologia mysterium”, the mystery of earth or creation.  We try to select each piece to reflect and enhance that mystery.

ROCK STARS

The House Blessings, Charms, altar pieces & other fortuitous Events called Rocks are a wonderful addition to your house & family.

These have strong energetic patterns derived from nature & being a moment in a wave – they counteract your domestication & bring energy to where you are.  Many have colors & patterning similar to the artforms of native peoples here, people who understood & could see the medicine of nature. These sets can be used in many ways.  You could use them in Ritual Magic, or Council of Voices exercises where separate rocks represent different aspects of yourself or a situation similar to Sand Tray Work.  You can use them on altars, mantel pieces or Inspiration Installations or separate them, spread them around yr house in places you frequent & see them begin to break the pattern of yr mind & place.  You can also of course use them decoratively.  Many Interior Designers are now adopting Rocks & Minerals, Wood & other natural elements into their work.

Because their narratives & energy patterns are derived from their natural forms, they help bring another voice to our constructed habits of seeing & bring the spirits into our civilized world, which has been tamed and limited by our narratives and descriptions.  Our creations, both technological and communicative, follow our “train of thought” which is based on our conditioning and cultural agreements.  Natural forms have their own narrative and unique patterning which owes nothing to human intervention and are thus valuable in breaking the trance that language and culture enforce in us.

These Tools & Ancient Voices are here for us & with us.  Malidoma Some, the African teacher, says that the rocks are the warehouse of our memories & the memories of groups of people as well.  If the universe is a hologram as some researchers suggest, then we reflect the memories of the rocks as well as the plants, animals, heavenly bodies & elements.  Malidoma says rocks translate messages from other worlds & dimensions & their duty is to help us remember our origins & purpose.  Malidoma’s people, the Dagara, say that our bones store our personal memories & our bones are structured by minerals.  They could be called the computer chips that our nervous system uses. Malidoma says rocks are the clockwork & infrastructure of the natural world.  They have the memory of all manifest creation and are revered for that reason.  As such, they can assist us in remembering who we are.
